Ken Nagy is our Website Administrator, former VP and all around helpful Tarheel Tiger. As you may have guessed, Ken is not native to North Carolina. He and his wife, Dawn, relocated to NC in 2011 from New Jersey. Dawn owns a promotional products company and was named Wake Forest’s 2016 Citizen of the Year. Ken has a stepson in the Coast Guard in San Francisco and another in New Jersey, contracted with the Navy. Ken’s daughter is a graduate of NC State and has a job with NJ Sea Grant that has allowed her to enjoy work life in North Carolina as well as New Jersey.
If you email with Ken, you might see the Darksiders logo. The Darksiders is a nickname for fans of bigger Pontiacs, like the Grand Prix. Ken currently owns three Pontiacs. His first Pontiac was his uncle’s 1970 Tempest. He had to fix it up but it was the start of his passion surrounding Pontiacs while his friends were Ford and Chevy guys. He did own a 1966 GTO that he got by trading a motorcycle. He sold it after 26 years of ownership. In his current collection is a 1966 Grand Prix, 1992 Grand Prix and 1963 Catalina Safari.
His latest acquisition is the 1992 Grand Prix. Ken likes his cars to have a special quality. So, while it might seem run of the mill to the average individual, Ken shared several reasons why this particular car is special. A few weeks ago, he purchased the car from someone in Pennsylvania that he’s known for 25 years. The car is a Richard Petty Edition, one of only 1000 made. However, it’s really one of seventy – five with a 5-speed manual transmission and one of eight optioned with a moon roof in Neon Blue.. With 47,000 miles, it was hard to pass up for our Darksider friend. He brought the car home following a big snow storm and shared lots of pictures with us on Facebook. Hopefully he’ll bring it to a meeting soon so we can take a look in person.
The majority of Ken’s free time is spent enjoying and working on cars. He’s particular about the work, preferring to do it himself. He generally avoids body work but enjoys rebuilding and restoring to original as much as possible. He also started the Wake Forest Cars & Coffee event that continues to grow. To support his car addiction…er hobby, he works as a Linux/Solaris Administrator.
As our Web Admin, Ken is keeping up our website, promoting events and maintaining the Facebook page. We likely don’t think about it often, as we click from one page to the next or check the calendar of events for the next item on the list that we want to attend. Much work goes in to the upkeep, reporting and social branding of our club. Ken’s hard work earned a Website &Social Media Certificate of Excellence from the GTOAA for the past several years.
