Amanda joined the Tarheel Tigers in March of this year. Her '66 Lemans convertible with a 326 was a gift from her husband. The car is named Geronimo because of the original Pontiac emblem. And, when you buy a classic car for your wife that needs to be put back together, you "hope she likes it", so it's a bit of a leap. He knows his wife well. She enjoys driving the car regularly and says it will never be what she considers a show car. Her daily driver is a 2006 MINI Cooper S with a 6 speed manual transmission. The MINI has a British flag on the top, and since she drives such recognizable vehicles, it's likely that her career as a get-away driver is on hold. Though she no longer has a bike, Amanda maintains a motorcycle endorsement and expects she'll ride again when the kids are grown.
Amanda was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (da U.P. eh?). She grew up in Allendale, Michigan, in the mitten, on a retired dairy farm. Dogs were the animal of choice in her life. She was introduced to Bluetick hounds by her former stepfather who was a bear hunter. Amanda helped track the bear and spent much of her time with the dogs. She enjoyed showing her Blueticks in UKC bench trials, regularly showing 2 of their thirteen dogs. She grew up wanting to be a veterinarian and has had a variety of interesting pets in her life, including cow and snakes.
Amanda and her husband, Jon, moved to NC from Wisconsin, shortly after their marriage in 2002. Jon is also originally from Michigan and they try to go back for visits with his family and Amanda's father in August, when the weather is accommodating. Amanda and Jon have two boys, Davin 11 and Vaughn 7. Since they don't live on a farm, they only have three dogs and two cats, all rescues. Though she figures there’s always space for more, the Liimatainen zoo is currently full. She enjoys travel with the family – often in their RV with the dogs. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, and games of all varieties. It’s cliché, but Amanda enjoys shopping for almost anything. She has a knack for finding a great deal and has the most fun when she’s helping other people shop. It’s much more enjoyable to spend other people’s money.
Amanda has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Human Resources & Economics) and works for IBM as a Recruitment Partner for IBM's Watson Health. The majority of her career has been in healthcare and she will happily tell you more about it if you ask. Be careful, she's likely to talk your ear off about oncology and access to quality care. Really, she’ll talk your ear off about just about anything.
She looks forward to learning more from the vast knowledge of the membership, and plans to remain active in the club for as long as the members will tolerate her.
