Butch Mistretta has been a Tarheel Tiger since 2010. You’ll find him at club meetings and car shows when he’s not traveling for work. Butch is a Regional VP for an electrical supply company and travels often in the southeast US. In fact, he travels about 40 weeks a year. With a schedule like that, it’s wonderful that we’ve been able to have his presence at club functions. If you’ve been to Cars & Coffee or attended November CCAF, you’ve been able to see his 1965 GTO. His first GTO was also a 1965, but was stolen in the 70’s and missing for several weeks. When it was found, it was too damaged for him to invest the time and money to repair. Butch sold it, and in 2002 his son found a ’65 GTO in impound in Washington, DC. They spent the next several years working on it together and this is the car that you’ve enjoyed seeing at local events. Often you’ll see a tiger inside.
Butch and his wife of 45+ years have three children and seven grandchildren. His family lives in the Raleigh area and in Nashville, Tennessee. Their proximity allows Butch to spoil the grandkids and send them back home. This year, they’re celebrating Thanksgiving together.
He has been a North Carolinian for about 24 years. Butch refers to himself as a misplaced Cajun. He is originally from Louisiana, and has lived in Texas and Oklahoma. Butch has 5 siblings, with one remaining in Louisiana and one sister living in NC. An avid LSU fan, Butch enjoys attending sporting events and travels to see them when possible. Ask him about his trip to Lambeau Field. His interest in sports keeps him away from auto auctions and adding to his vehicle count. He’s able to keep busy with other activities like golf. Butch plays tournament golf and has a 2 – 3 handicap. Living on a golf course helps support his enjoyment of the sport, and gives him time to practice. He has property in the Boone area, allowing time in the mountains as well. Butch also enjoys fishing. Though he has done some fly fishing, he prefers to fish in saltwater. The included picture is from his most recent trip off the Florida coast.
If you were in attendance at a recent meeting, you had the opportunity to have a taste of Butch’s cooking. If you weren’t there or passed on dinner, you missed out on a great meal. He kept it mild, but brought the hot sauce for those of us that like spicy foods. Perhaps we can convince him to do it again in the near future.
